Two reasons to mark March 14 of your calendar - it's the birthday of my friend Paul, who will be best man at my forthcoming wedding, and the day that Buffy The Vampire Slayer returns to life ... again.When Buffy walked away from the remains of Sunnydale at the end of Chosen, the final epsiode of the seventh season of the epic TV series, and the actors went off to pursue their own, non-Buffy careers, we all kinda assumed that that was the "official" end to the chronicling of the vampire slayers' life.
And for a long time it was. Until Buffy's creator, Joss Whedon decided to bring her - and the Scooby gang - back in comic format. Yes, that's right, an offical, canon, continuation of the legend by the man who started it all in the first place!

We'll get to see how Buffy handles her responsibility for the thousands of newly empowered Slayers (created by Willow's magical spell in Chosen), how Xander mourns his beloved Anya, how Giles is getting on reforming the Watchers Council and so on.
It is only fitting that Buffy, a character who has returned from the dead several times, an old comic book cliche if ever there was one, should end up as a comic book character - I'm choosing to ignore earlier Dark Horse comics as (a) they weren't canon and (b) generally they were pretty poor, "monster-of-the-week" stories where the universe had to be 'reset' at the end of every story because of reason (a).
Joss has recently found a degree of fame - if not wealth - in his comic book sideline as the writer of the hugely popular Astonishing X-Men and the forthcoming Runaways, and you only have to have watched a few episodes of Buffy to know that he is as big a geek as the rest of us.
At least 25 issues are planned for Season 8 and then, depending on fan reaction and sales, what ... Season 9?
