New Life!

Saturday was Kent's Big Day out - a big tourism push to promote attractions in the county through free admission.

Rachel and I snagged a pair of tickets to Wingham Wildlife Park, near Canterbury, which neither of us had ever heard of!

At first we were a bit sceptical, expecting it to be the size of someone's garden. But what a pleasant surprise - although it was smaller than Drusillas (which we visited a little while ago) it was more welcoming, more reasonably priced and genuinely hands-on (without the patronising animatronic puppets 'educating' you about animal welfare).

And not only that (and the food was a lot better), but because we arrived at the start of Spring, we got to witness "new life" - a lemur had given birth that morning and was nursing her young and the wallabies had given birth last month and were carrying their babies round in the pouches. It was all very cute!

If you are over in this part of the world, Wingham Wildlife Park deserves your support. It's well worth a day's visit, and I hope Rachel and I will make it back someday to see how the little 'uns are getting on.

1 serfs have something to say about this!:

  1. I have to admit I'm not normally one for fluffy cute things (except for the vast collection of Lumpies that we have accumulated) but seeing the lemurs that were just a few hours old was truly amazing!! We tend to have mixed feelings about zoos but as I remarked at the time, they probably wouldn't be breeding if they were unhappy. Hopefully we'll make it back before their first birthday!
