The Week In Geek...

A round-up of geeky stories you might have missed...

(1) Preacher Is Dead...Long Live The Boys: HBO's adaptation of Garth Ennis' controversial comic book series, Preacher, has proved too hot even for HBO, however The Boys is is possibly being made into a movie for Sony Pictures. Personally, I say 'leave well enough alone'... we don't need another neutered and watered down mainstream action flick like Wanted. Let the original works remain as they are.

(2) Slipstream Takes Off: Slipstream, the Savage Worlds take on pulp science-fiction, is due to be published on September 22.

(3) The Kids Have Spoken: Doctor Who is nominated for four awards in the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on September 13 - Favourite Family TV Show; Favourite Baddie (The Daleks); Favourite Female TV Star (Freema Agyeman/Catherine Tate) and Favourite Male TV Star (David Tennant).

(4) Torchwood Filming: Filming has begun in Wales on Children Of Earth, aka the third season of Torchwood, which will run for over five nights in a single week on BBC1 next year.

(5) Conan Versus The Lawyers: BrokenSea Audio, producers of the (free) Conan: Queen Of The Black Sea audio drama (amongst others) have been served with a 'cease and desist' notice by Conan Properties International LLC's lawyers.

(6) Grimm On The Air: After a short break, Grimm Studios podcast - another of my favourite gaming podcasts - has returned for a second season.

(7) Of Gods And Awards: Online fan-produced movie Star Trek: Of Gods and Men, featuring several members of the original Star Trek cast, has won the 2008 Syfy Portal Genre Award for Best Web Production.

(8) The Shadow Was Batman's Father: Dennis O’Neil, former editor of DC's Batman titles, talks about the origins of the Caped Crusader in the latest volume of republished adventures of The Shadow.

3 serfs have something to say about this!:

  1. Garth Ennis' & Darick Robertson's "The Boys" is being produced by Jason Netter of Kickstart Entertainment as a film for Columbia Pictures-based Original Films. It will be adapted by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay.

  2. Thanks for the update/correction "Anonymous". I'm still unsure about the merits of making The Boys into a movie after the dreadul, watering-down of Wanted, but I hope to be pleasantly surprised - should it ever make it to the big screen :-)
