PROJECT Z Begins In Earnest...

It should come as no surprise that I'm pretty cack-handed when it comes to supergluing miniatures together.

I prepared my work space this morning, set out the Hasslefree characters that needed basing or limbs attaching... and within 10 minutes my fingers were sticking together and small bits of metal were slipping around the table as I tried to either hold them together or trim them down (the riot cop's shield ended up in my lap at one point).

Unfortunately, my superglue hadn't been used for so long that the lid was stuck tight, so I needed to saw off the top of the container to gain access - which necessitates a trip into Tunbridge Wells soon to buy myself some more superglue!

But eventually - more by luck and perseverance than skill - I managed to get the figures shown at the top ready for painting after about an hour.

The pads of my fingers may now be thick with touch-deadening layers of glue, but I'm pleased with the five zombie fighters and four zombies I've assembled, which will complement my existing (painted) pair of zombie fighters and five zombies.

While I was doing all this I was listening to the latest episode of Midnight's Lair extolling the virtues of Savage Worlds (as many podcasts do) which I am seriously considering as my "go to" system for both a zombie role-playing game and miniatures system, as it has the functionality to serve as both built in.

4 serfs have something to say about this!:

  1. A small bitted pin vise/drill is always useful. You can drill straight through shoulders into the torso. Using brass wire as a pin helps hold things in place while the glue sets, and because it is a soft metal, it can be filed down easily.

The good thing about zombies is that they are sloppy by nature (super-nature?), so painting is a breeze!

  2. Thanks for the tip, Darius. I believe I have a pin vise tucked away in a cupboard somewhere. I'll have to dig it out (and the rest of my modelling tools) before sticking any more figures together.

  3. Shouldn't you have mentioned that cocktail stick that you found superglued to your clothes several hours later? :-)

  4. Thanks for bringing that up, that was supposed to be our secret ;-)
