The Week In Geek...

A round-up of geeky stories you might have missed...

(1) Forrest Finally Felled: The grand master of science-fiction, horror and fantasy, who coined the term 'sci-fi', Forrest J Ackerman, has died at the age of 92.

(2) Don't Get In A Flap: In March 2009, Howard The Duck finally comes to DVD in the States, in a special extras packed edition. Only 13 months behind us, then! Admittedly the UK version is vanilla, devoid of extras.

(3) World War Z Will Be Epic: Babylon 5 creator and comic book writer J. Michael Straczynski talks about the "phenomenal" scale of the World War Z film he is scripting for Quantum of Solace's Marc Forster to direct.

(4) Sneak A Peak At Conan: The rules for the highly anticipated Age Of Conan boardgame are available for download, ahead of the game's full release next February.

(5) Prepare To Go Ape: Fox seems to be getting closer to giving the thumbs up to a new Planet Of The Apes film.

(6) Go-Ahead For Caprica: The Battlestar Galactica prequel series, Caprica, has been given the green light by the Sci Fi Channel, and is currently scheduled to take off in 2010.

(7) Elementary, My Dear Ritchie: Guy Ritchie's action-packed re-invention of Sherlock Holmes has been plagued by on-set accidents.

(8) Heroes Gets Fuller: With the sad loss of Pushing Daisies, its creator Bryan Fuller is poised to return to Heroes, the show he left to chronicle the adventures of the Pieman.

(9) Babylon 5 Travels: Babylon 5 finally gets the role-playing treatment it deserves (I hope) with the publication of Mongoose's guide to running the B5 universe using their new revised Traveller rules system.

(10) Wogan Retires From Eurovision: After 35 years, veteran BBC presenter Terry Wogan is stepping down from his legendary role as the commentator on the Eurovision Song Contest, to be replaced by funnyman Graham Norton.

About Me

My Photo
The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
