The First Avenger: Captain America is due out on May 6, 2011, and, as yet, not only hasn't a script been finalised for Joe 'Jurassic Park 3' Johnston to direct, but perhaps even more crucially, at this stage, for the fans, no one has been cast as Steve Rogers aka Captain America.
The net is steaming with rumours and suggestions, the Comic By Comic blog site ran a poll which named Supernatural's Jensen Ackles as a preferred choice.
But for me there should only be two names in the frame: Daniel Craig (yes, I know he's British and James Bond...) and Kiefer Sutherland.

Kiefer would be great for the part
ReplyDeleteMatt Damon IS Captain America. He looks like someone from the 1940s, very friendly, smiling all the time boyish good looks. Plus as with all that training for the Bourne Trilight you know he can actually look good fighting.
ReplyDeletei think, no,i know, Kiefer would be great in this role!
ReplyDeleteHe's a fantastic "hero" already, don't ya think?
Liz
I would love to see Kiefer as Casting Cap. Kiefer would be great for the part!
ReplyDeleteGood point, Louis. As The Bourne films have kinda passed me by, I didn't immediately see the Matt Damon angle, but now I do!
ReplyDeleteLooks like Kiefer is getting the backing of the HeroPress crowd though :-)
But where's the love for Daniel ' James Bond' Craig? Or is he simply too "English" for the role? Don't you think he could carry off an American accent?
They need to cast an unknown, and they need someone fairly young. Both Craig and Sutherland are 40-something, and back in WWII if the US Army were looking for someone to try the Super Soldier Serum I reckon they'd pick someone a lot younger.
ReplyDeleteAlexander Skarsgard is a name I've seen mentioned for the role - I think he'd be good but I'm hoping he's being lined up for Thor. He'd be perfect for that!
Another good point there, Matt C. Why is that my readers always have more sensible ideas about my topics than I do?
ReplyDeletewow, no way no middle-aged, famous actor should be cast for Cap;
ReplyDeletestrictly unknown or lesser-known, like how Hugh Jackman was cast as Wolverine.
production for the new movie should press on, though, and hopefully the producers learned from the mistakes of the old Cap movies.
astronomius.
