The Week In Geek

A round-up of geeky news you might have missed...

(1) Phil's First Time: Phil Collinson, producer of Doctor Who from 2005 to 2008, makes his first ever convention appearance at Gallifrey One, being held on February 13 to 15 in Los Angeles. Other guests include stars of Torchwood and Classic Doctor Who, as well as writers of the new series.

(2) The Name's Rackham, Red Rackham: James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, has been cast as Red Rackham in Spielberg's forthcoming Tintin movie. Jamie Bell will be the boy reporter Tintin.

(3) Happy Easter For Geeks: Not only does Doctor Who (hopefully) return at Easter, but also much-loved sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf, with an original two-part special over the Easter weekend.

(4) Fire Retro Rockets: Check out the awesome model retro sci-fi spaceship above, a new release from Recreational Conflict, currently on sale for the knock-down price of $12 until February 15. It's the perfect complement for all those G.A.F.D.O.Z. figures you're going to order.

(5) Joss In NYC: Dollhouse/Buffy/Firefly creator Joss Whedon is appearing at this weekend's New York Comic Con...

(6) From Wales With Love: As is Torchwood actress Eve Myles and director Euros Lyn, with a sneak peak of season three - Children of Earth.

(7) Hellboy 3 Not For Several Years: Guillermo Del Toro will be too busy with his Hobbit films (prequels to Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings) to think about another Hellboy film for at least three or four years - although he has given his blessing for a possible BPRD spin-off movie.

(8) New Who Figures Go Back To Beginning: New Doctor Who action figures - exclusive to The Forbidden Planet - depict the First and Second incarnations of The Doctor.

(9) From A Different Point Of View: The Tin Dog podcast is currently reviewing the E-Space Trilogy which HeroPress has just covered. Listen to the podcast for a different - and more informed - perspective on the Doctor Who story arc.

(10) X-Files Helmer Dies: X-Files Producer and Director Kim Manners died on January 25, aged 58.

(11) Woolies To Live Again: Former High Street icon Woolworths is to be reborn as an online store after being bought by the owners of The Daily Telegraph.

About Me

My Photo
The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
