The Week In Geek...

A round-up of geeky news you might have missed...

(1) Hawk The Slayer Gets A Sequel: How many shades of awesome is this? A sequel to the ultimate Dungeons & Dragons movie, so beloved of The Knights Of The Dinner Table: Hawk The Slayer will become Hawk The Hunter.

(2) Own A Piece of Sci-Fi History: The science-fiction memorabilia collection of the late, great Forrest Ackerman is to be auctioned off.

(6) Toypedia Launched: The Toy Collector website has launched its Toypedia which, rather ambitiously, aims to "to catalogue every toy ever produced in every variant"!!!

(7) More Darko: A sequel to the overrated Donnie Darko is going direct to DVD on April 28. Does anyone care?

(8) Specials In HD: This year's Doctor Who Specials, starting with Planet Of The Dead at Easter, will be filmed in High Definition for the first time.

(9) Bringing Eastern Sci-Fi To The West: Manga publisher VIZ Media is launching a new imprint that will offer translations of Japanese science-fiction and fantasy novels.

(12) K-9 Returns To Whoniverse: The Tin Dog himself, K-9, will be playing a major role in six episodes of the third season of The Sarah Jane Adventures to air later this year.

(13) Mickey Wins BAFTA: Noel Clarke, Doctor Who's hapless Mickey Smith, won a BAFTA for his work on Kidulthood and Adulthood.

Hawk the Slayer sequel?!? Wha..? That's brilliant. God knows why they chose this 80s piece of cheese but I'm glad they did. I loved it when I was younger.

I hope they have Crow, the swift arrow-firing elf, in this new version!

I've been totally gobsmacked since I first heard this news... and just hope the new version lives up to the awesomeness of the original!

I'm rather suspecting it will be "direct-to-DVD", but as long as it's made with love and respect it will be joining its older sibling on my shelves without a doubt :)

About Me

My Photo
The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
