WARNING - HeroPress May Be About To Go Offline!

Greetings, gentle reader. This is a warning to regular visitors to the site that daily postings may stop (hopefully for just a short while) in the near future.

My computer has started to behave rather erratically, with yellow triangles and exclamation marks popping up repeatedly in the tool bar and random messages (like the one above) about "corrupt files" spooking me whenever I fire up the PC.

If this continues - which I suspect it will - I might have to "call in an expert" and get this machine MOT-ed!

Of course, it might be nothing; just a passing hic-cup, but I'm bracing myself for the worse... just in case.

8 persons have something to say about this!:

Okay, because I'm irredeemable it's expected of me to be crass... you posted a screen shot, teasing us with what appears to be a hot girl in the background. Gotta ask, who is she? :)

If that's your wife or daughter, I sincerely apologize.

Thanks, Shag.

Currently I feel every time I turn on the computer I am dicing with the future of our old photographs and precious memories (as well as scores of game stuff & pdfs) - but an "external hard drive" is on the way, so we can back everything up!

I have suspicions that it's some video card conflict or something, but as I know NOTHING about the operations of computers I'll leave that for the "experts" to decide.

As to the "wallpaper" picture - check here for the rest of it: http://www.heropress.net/2009/06/miss-june-keira-knightley.html

Not my wife (but Rachel knows she would be in trouble if Keira turned up on the doorstep, pleading for me to run away with her...)

Good luck. I've had hard drives go bad on my before and get viruses. The external drive is a great idea. Good luck.

And thanks for the pic! Yowza!

You might want to uninstall the Google Toolbar and re-install it. Since it gets your setting from Google, it should probably not cause too many heartaches.

I am getting a lot of malware/spyware alerts lately. Possibly from Twitter, though I am not sure how that would happen.

I'll check on the Chkdsk works these days. Maybe disk defragmenter might get rid of f'd up files.

Annoyingly "defrag" is one of the programmes that's stopped working (as "defragging" is pretty much my catch-all answer to most software issues!). It says it can't run because a "Chkdsk" is scheduled on the C drive (or words to that effect!)

Didn't realise that Twitter was a possible source of malware/spyware though... surely my Norton Antivirus would pick that up though? {gulp}

I don't know that Twitter is a threat, but since I use it a lot and have been having virus/malware issues I have suspected it (though it really does not make sense, it is just HTML).

My second computer is dead. I'll try the chkdsk, but it is possible that since one is scheduled it will not work. I have seen that problem before, but forget how to solve.

Thanks for looking into it :-)

About Me

The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
