The Week In Geek...

A round-up of geeky news you might have otherwise missed...

(1) Help Raises Funds And The Dead: Your chance to play a movie zombie, by supporting the Invasion Of The Not Quite Dead, the first fan-funded zombie trilogy in Internet movie history!

(2) Getting Angry: New science-fiction/fantasy imprint Angry Robot launches on October 10 at Forbidden Planet's London Megastore, with writers Dan Abnett, Andy Remic and Colin Harvey in attendance.

(3) Cash Is The Lantern's Weakness: Turns out the Green Lantern's weakness may not be the colour yellow, but the colour of money as the movie adaptation hits road bumps Down Under before it even takes flight.

(4) A Full TARDIS: Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor is reunited with his three companions - Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Mark Strickson as Vislor Turlough and Janet Fielding as Tegan Jovanka - for the first time in 26 years for a series of Big Finish Doctor Who audio plays next year. Meanwhile Frazer Hines returns as Jamie (a companion of the Second Doctor), but now teamed with Colin Baker's Sixth!

(5) The Battle of Nutwood: A range of hand-painted, 45mm figures based on Rubert The Bear and his chums has been released.

(6) From Dollhouse To A Galaxy Far, Far Away: Latest Star Wars live action TV series rumours identify the gorgeous Dichen Lachman as a potential cast member.

(7) Cloned Again: Season Two of Star Wars: The Clone Wars animation debuts in the US on October 2. I hope we get it soon over here as well!

(8) Sailing Fresh Waters: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader aims to reboot the Narnia franchise.

(9) Maybe Not A Sign Of The Impending Apocalypse After all: Big Brother finally gets axed from our screens next year, and Channel 4/E4 will have to find hours of real television to take its place. Had it dragged on to 2012 I might have thought the Aztecs were actually right...

(10) Legend Drives Stake Into Twilight: Lauren Bacall makes no attempt to hide her dislike of teen vampire movie Twilight. And don't even get me started on the disturbing Twilight sex toy! Definitely NSFW!

(11) Heathers Coming To TV: Fox is working on a TV incarnation of the classic Christian Slater/Winona Ryder movie Heathers.

(12)
Save Our TARDIS: One of the few remaining genuine TARDIS-style police boxes in the UK has fallen into disrepair and the local community are trying to preserve it.

(13) Eddie's Christmas Present: Eddie Izzard is to star in a new BBC Christmas story, The Lost Christmas, about a man with a magical power to find the lost.

(14) Blob To Be Reshaped:
Having reinvented the Halloween franchise, director Rob Zombie is now turning his attention to The Blob.

(15) Bringing History Alive: Two £12 dioramas are now available for pre-order from Warhammer Historical, both sculpted by the Perry brothers.

(16) Smiling Jack's Bar And Grill: New Savage Worlds podcast coming soon from the team behind the hugely popular The Game's The Thing podcast.

(17) Savage Cthulhu: Get stylish character dossiers from Reality Blurs for your adventurers in their forthcoming Realms Of Cthulhu game (a Savage Worlds reworking of Call Of Cthulhu).

(18) Uncle Walt Buys The Marvel Empire: Disney has acquired Marvel Entertainment for $4 billion. Perhaps this explains why Marvel Comics have been so Mickey Mouse recently?

2 serfs have something to say about this!:

  1. (4) I have enjoyed the Sixth Doctor audios that I've heard and I have always liked the Jamie McCrimmon character so I might have to pick these up.

    (10) Good for Lauren Bacall! I wonder what her granddaughter's reaction was to Nosferatu. Probably, "ewww... black & white." Then followed with nightmares. :P

  2. The Sixth Doctor has built quite a fan base in his audio incarnation; Big Finish has really allowed him to grow as a character (and, of course, we don't have to see the coat!)

It's a shame there has been - as far as I know - no follow-up story on the granddaughter's reaction. Unfortunately I expect she'd probably be sticking with Twilight!
