The votes are in, the catfight is over and the readers of HeroPress have decided that the definitive, live-action, portrayal of Catwoman is Julie Newmar from the original 1966 Batman TV series, with a staggering 50 per cent of the votes. From the get-go, it was a two-horse race between Newmar, who is appearing with fellow Batman alumni Adam West and Burt Ward at the inaugural Anaheim Comic Con early next year, and Michelle Pfeiffer, from Tim Burton's 1992 Batman Returns.
Up until last night, Pfeiffer - who eventually netted 43 per cent of the votes - and Newmar were tied in the polls but a last minute rally by old school Julie Newmar fans finally clinched victory.
Way behind these two, TV's Eartha Kitt polled four per cent, Halle Berry, from the 2004 Catwoman movie, managed two per cent and poor Lee Meriwether, from the old Adam West Batman TV movie, got no votes.
As always I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to vote and leave comments and I look forward to your input in the next HeroPress opinion poll.

10 persons have something to say about this!:
I cannot tell a lie...I personally spear-headed a last-minute campaign over on Midnight's Lair to rally old-time Julie Newmar fans into getting off their bat-asses and coming over here to vote.
Just couldn't bear to see her in a tie with that Pfieffer woman.
Bravo to you, then, PMikey! Another other result would have been impurrrrfect!
Julie Newmar was awesome.
No problem with that, PMikey - anything that gets more eyes on HeroPress is a win in my book :)
I voted for Pfieffer but I loved Newmar and I would say it was a snap decision on my part. I love them both but when it comes down to it I think Newmar created the onscreen character perfectly but Pfieffer is the modern day Catwoman.
In my campaign for Julie, I may have sounded a bit harsh and critical of Michelle.
In truth, it wasn't all her fault. That second Batman movie was horrible. Horrible wriing. Horrible costumes. Horrible direction.
Just horrible.
So I can't blame Michelle for her performance...considering what she was given to work with.
Now, you see, PMikey, I have to disagree with you there - I haven't seen Batman Returns for many years, but I remember it being rather good.
Guess I'll have to dig out the DVD and watch it again now to see if I was wearing rose-tinted goggles ;)
I liked Batman Returns a LOT when I first saw it, largely because -- as is often the case -- Burton's visual style overwhelmed my reason. But if you sit back and think about the movie for a couple of minutes, it becomes extremely annoying. The plot is full of nonsensical things: Christopher Walken's plan to drain energy from Gotham City is abandoned after the first half-hour; the Penguin's big plan is to steal the first-born of Gotham's elite with his circus freaks (?!); the missile-equipped penguins walk through the middle of a deserted (?) Gotham City; etc.
The big problem with both of Burton's Batman films is that he seemed unsure whether he was shepherding a "serious" story, where logic needs to apply, or a superheroic fairy tale, which logic and reason can take a back seat to visuals and themes. Either one would have been fine, but he tried to have it both ways.
That said, I loved every scene with Keaton and Pfeiffer. They were terrific.
I really must watch this film again!
Michael Keaton remains my favourite Bruce Wayne/Batman because, no matter how generally awesome Christian Bale is (one of my all-time top actors) I find his Batman voice risible... I'm hoping if there is a third Batman film with Bale he tones down "the voice".
So, Eartha Kitt is Ross Perot, Halle Berry is Ralph Nader... Who gets no votes? I'd hate to equate the lovely Lee Meriweather with a certain Wasilla hillbilly :-)
Julie Newmar was a no-brainer for me.
Meow.
