Sontaran Shenanigans!

Following on from last week's teaser, Alasdair Stuart, in the first of his "Doctoring The TARDIS" columns, gives us some insight into his thinking behind the initial pdf adventure he has penned for Cubicle 7's Doctor Who: Adventures In Time & Space roleplaying game.

He introduces the column with: "As well as the Ninth Doctor boxed set, which I’ll be talking about in a couple of columns time, I’m also working on a series of PDF adventures, the first three of which have to feature a Dalek, a Cyberman and a Sontaran..." then goes on to fill in some background detail to the Sontaran-themed tale set amongst the Vikings of 11th Century Earth.

For the full column, and lots of tasty details about the adventure set-up, visit the Bleeding Cool website.

[UPDATE: The article now appears to have been withdrawn - possibly because of the NDAs the playtesters etc were under.]

Meanwhile, the game is the subject of a full-page article in the latest issue of SFX magazine (#190), entitled The Long Game, which quotes system author David Chapman and Cubicle 7's Dominic McDowall-Thomas.

The article gives a broad overview of the game, its possibilities and its initial coverage of the television show from the Christopher Ecclestone era through to Matt Smith's Doctor.

Dominic concludes the article, on page 17, by saying: "We're currently considering our plans for covering other eras, and other perspectives, such as Torchwood."

On the subject of the game's approach, David says: "This game will allow not only gun-toting UNIT soldiers, but proves that your brains are just as powerful at stopping the alien menace - just like The Doctor."

10 serfs have something to say about this!:

  1. I started watching this show on Netflix instants. We just completed with the first season and the last show ended with Doctor Who changing into a new guy. Haven't started watching the second yet. Really liked the first guy - but will give the next guy a go.

Hope all is well with you and Rachel.

  2. Stick with it, it only gets better through the David Tennant years - especially when he pairs up with Donna Noble in the season after the one you're about to see.

I don't if Netflix will have them, but there's about three decades worth of Doctor Who before this "first season" that you have seen, dating back to 1963. You've entered a whole new world of geekdom - be prepared to get sucked in ;)

  3. Yeah, Netflix goes back, we saw to the older ones. We just watched the newer, I guess first season of that batch.

I really liked the other actor and I like the girl. But ... shows change. We'll go back and watch the originals as well. We dig that kind of stuff.

  4. Part of the appeal for many people - and the longevity of the show - is the constant change; not just of the companions but also The Doctor himself as he regenerates into a new 'actor' with a new personality.

The woman you're referring to, Billie Piper, sticks around for a while - and even when you think she's left she keeps popping back ;)

  5. I saw her name was Billie on the credits and thought it fit her nicely. I tried watching the new season 2. Did not like the teleplay. The actor, I'm not that thrilled with right now either, but then I really liked the other guy - so for me, it's going to take some time.

  6. That's a shame, but please stick with it. Many people regard David Tennant as the "best" Doctor - Rachel and many of her female friends have massive crushes on him(!).

The season gets really good (although there are some ups and downs along the way).

  7. Some ups and down with any show and like I mentioned, we're still giving the next season a try. Just the writing was so bad on that opener, mixed with the actor I liked, gone.

    I'm a wolverine girl myself.

  8. Did you ever watch Bones? Once Zack left the lab, the lab wasn't the same. There was chemistry and fun between Zack and Hodgins. And now, that roll keeps changing from one actor, to the other, then back. I'm not a fan of the revolving door.

  9. And we have the original on instants and we both want to check out that. Love streaming video to our television.

Well, that's about all from my end. Roll call is 5AM and I'm due in for a 10 hour shift. So I will bid you goodnight and wave hello to Rachel.

    Happy Almost Weekend.

  10. Glad your sticking with the show. It didn't help that Russell T Davies, the showrunner who brought the show back after many years off air, wasn't the greatest writer - being more interested in soap opera sub-plots and massive 'OTT' moments than logical plotting - but he brought the show back and we all have to love him for that ;)

After three years he handed over the reins to the current showrunner... but that's a little way off for you yet!

Hope you guys have a great weekend as well.

We've got the in-laws round tomorrow to help us move furniture and tidy the dining room before the decorators come in next week, Rachel's having a meal with an old friend on Saturday night and I'm off to a local wargames convention on Sunday. Fun times :D
