Front and centre, soldier! You're part of UNIT now, the Unified Intelligence Taskforce. We are the Earth's best defence against the myriad alien forces who would try to subjugate and conquer our planet. Try they might, but they will meet UNIT: a global military force tasked with protecting the planet and researching the alien threat.

It's not an easy job, and even those recruited for their scientific knowledge can find themselves on the front lines of combat against an almost unstoppable foe. It's dangerous, violent and not everyone will survive, but for the good of the planet we will do everything in our power to protect humanity from extraterrestrial terrors.

Defending the Earth is an expansion set for the Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space roleplaying game. Within this box you will find:

• 160 page rulebook detailing the history of UNIT, along with additional information for creating UNIT characters, including new Traits and Areas of Expertise, as well as expanded firearms and combat rules, including mass combat and skirmish rules.

• 32 page Adventure book, featuring a whole new ready-to-play adventure and many ideas for additional stories.

• Character sheets for major UNIT personnel, including the legendary Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

and more…

Meanwhile the PDF of the core rules is now available, along with a separate PDF of just the Player's Guide.

UPDATE (4.20pm, December 14): Angus, of Cubicle 7, has just told me: "The Players Guide PDF has been withdrawn for 24 hours as it wasn't downloading properly when we tested it. I'm waiting for a mail back from the OBS [One Bookshelf] crew to sort out the problem before we relist it. Sorry."

Sweet.

And I know one of those "et al"s. ;)

And looks like there's Classic Who material aplenty. Sweet indeed.

Rock and hard place: Indeterminate wait for the box to be available in Canada or 35$ for a pdf?

Gah!

Have to say as much as I love this game and support C7 in everything they are doing for it, I don't - personally - see the appeal of a pdf of a game which has so many tactile elements (such as dice and heavy-card story point chits). Of course, if you can't wait and are willing to shell out for both...

The Player's Guide, on the other hand, I think works brilliantly as a standalone PDF - and hope, eventually, that might become a solo print item (divorced from the gorgeous, but pricey, box set) for those who are just going to be players.

What a fantastic announcement! I can't wait for this! I'm surprised to see an old picture of the Brig on the cover. My understanding was that Cubicle 7 only had the rights to the new show.

"My understanding was that Cubicle 7 only had the rights to the new show."

I've now got the impression that this was just a rumour - an urban myth even - that grew out of the BBC's insistence that the initial products concentrate on the new (9th Doctor onwards) material.

I've picked up hints from things they've said in passing on various boards that they've always been able to produce Classic Who material and were keen to do so.

The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
