Turning The Fun Up To 11...

Game publishers Cubicle 7 has just revealed its plans for a mass market, High Street push of its new Doctor Who: Adventures In Time And Space roleplaying game to tie in with the arrival of the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith, in the TARDIS next year.

Angus Abranson said, on the fan forum: "The Tennant cover isn't a Limited Edition as such but it is going to be replaced next summer by a Matt Smith/11th Doctor themed visual core set.

"We'll be updating any mistakes that people might spot (spelling mistakes, etc) and including/swapping some of the Doctor and Companion character sheets to tie-in with the new series. The bulk of the set won't be changing at all though, just mainly the visuals and the branding (the new Who logo, colour scheme, etc).

"That's the plan at the moment anyway.

"It's with the 11th Doctor Core Set that the game will hopefully be branching out into the non-hobby, non-book trade arenas (
apart from Play.com who wanted the Tennant themed set) as many of the mass-market outlets like W H Smiths are not so interested in Tennant themed Doctor merchandise at present as he's leaving the show.

"This *will not* be a new edition of the game, just a visual re-branding to keep the game current with the TV Show.
"

Of course, that means some of us completists are going to end up with multiple copies of the same game, but if it means getting character sheets of the 11th Doctor and Amy Pond I don't mind!

And, naturally, it will be brilliant to see roleplaying games back on the High Street, where they belong, hopefully leading to a large influx of new players.

5 persons have something to say about this!:

It sounds like it's going to be a good attempt anyway. Short of perhaps Harry Potter, this is about the best licence they could use to try and grab a new audience.

It's also a simple, easy-entry game; with - from what I've seen so far - well written, clear rules with minimal "RPG" jargon and a snappy style akin to the Cinematic Unisystem games from Eden Studios.

That's super cool news! I love the idea of Doctor Who merchandise being up-front-and-center for everyone to see! It just doesn't get that kind of attention here in the states. Neither do RPGs either, so that's nice to hear this game will be supported heavily!

I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
