I'm a bit baffled by Showdown, since Savage Worlds scales up to mass combat quite readily as is; indeed, I believe it was designed as such!
Savage Worlds is indeed descended from Great Rail Wars (IIRC), the Deadlands mass combat game, so I guess Showdown is their way of demonstrating that it can scale back up - and adding a few tweaks (for those who need them).
