My Favourite Quotes...

Apropos of nothing in particular, here are a selection of my favourite quotes to ease us into the New Year...

"If you people spent less time thinking about sex and more time concentrating on comic books we’d have far fewer of these embarassing moments."
- Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory, The Jiminy Conjecture, 2009)

"Some men aren't looking for anything logical. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."
- Alfred Pennyworth (The Dark Knight, 2008)

"Do or do not... there is no try.”
"Size matters not... Look at me. Judge me by size, do you?”

"Adventure. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things."
"Hard to see the Dark Side is."

- Yoda (The Star Wars Saga)

"The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is - you DO NOT talk about Fight Club."
"You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your f------ khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing c--- of the world."

- Tyler Durden (Fight Club, 1999)

"Harry, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just...let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot, black coffee."
- Agent Cooper (Twin Peaks, 1990)

"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, and the sea's asleep, and the rivers dream; people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, somewhere else the tea's getting cold. Come on, Ace. We've got work to do."
- The Seventh Doctor (Doctor Who, Survival, 1989)

4 persons have something to say about this!:

You know, I think Old Who has a reputation for, above everything else, not being well written, and that one of the things the new show does is bring in "proper" writing. I'm not sure of that, because that Seventh Doctor quote gets me every time.

I'm also a big fan of the Sixth Doctor's rant about the Time Lords during his trial, which is probably the only highlight of his reign, alas.

Given that the old show ran for so many years, with so many different talents at the helm I think it's inevitable that the output would be varied certainly.

But both old and new Who have had (proportionally, IMHO) as much quality writing as downright cobblers... it's just there's more examples available of the bad from the Classic era.

For every Blink there's a Fear Her!

In a sense, it's a shame that the single, greatest quote from Classic Who came at the end of its last episode (ignoring the movie, which I don't recall having any memorable quotes).

That episode was the most recent screened here in the UK and I immediately said to my wife: "That quote needs to be on a T-shirt!" ;)

About Me

My Photo
The Acrobatic Flea
I was a regular salaryman, earning a crust with my meager writing skills, until an aneurysm tore open my aorta unexpectedly in early 2005. I suffered a stroke during surgery and a collapsed lung afterwards. I have since realised that I now have a new chance at life, which (body willing) I shall indulge in with positiveness, happiness and the good companionship of my wonderful wife. The Acrobatic Flea handle comes from the name of my favourite - and most successful - Villains & Vigilantes RPG character in the '80s.
