Sam and Dean are tipped off to the escape of a 'mental patient' who claims to hear the voices of angels. However, the tip comes from Ruby, much to Dean's chagrin as he is still unable to understand why Sam is so willing to trust her.The 'mental patient' turns out to be Anna Milton (Julie McNiven), a red-haired cutie with a sprinkling of Felicia Day-ness about her, and she really can listen in on the conversations of angels... which explains why the demons are out to capture her alive.
Anna knows all about Sam and Dean - from the talk she has heard - and is more than willing to go with them... if they can keep her away from the powerful demon also on her trail.
Intercutting with the main story, Sam eventually comes clean to Dean about what happened six months earlier, while Dean was still in Hell, and how Ruby saved his life, then became his mentor and lover.
It's good to see Supernatural back on the main story arc again. While it has never been forgotten (there's always some reference to what's been going on or Dean's time in The Pit), writer Sera Gamble puts the impending Apocalypse front and centre.
Although operating in two time-frames makes I Know What You Did Last Summer rather a bitty story, the impact of the brothers' efforts to find and then protect Anna make for some great moments (such as the bleeding Madonna statue in the church, caused by the approaching demon, or the eventual arrival of the angels at the end of the episode).
And the ominous "to be continued..." guarantees we'll be hitting 'play' on the DVD button straight away for the next episode, Heaven And Hell.

Interesting story!
Supernatural is well worth checking out, chib. It's one of the strongest American 'genre' shows I've come across.
