| Troll-crossing - Norwegian road sign |
Many thanks to Harald of The Book Of Worlds for really helping to push Trolljegeren (Troll Hunter), a incredible looking "found footage" faux documentary (in the style of The Blair Witch Project and its ilk) about Norwegian trolls and the people who hunt them.
I have such a soft spot for this sub-genre of the big monster movie that mixes classic monsters - usually found only in fairy tales and Dungeons & Dragons adventures - with unsuspecting 21st Century people (cf. Orcs!)
And speaking of mythological Scandinavians, if you can't wait for an official trailer for next May's Thor movie check out this excellent fan-assembled one, put together from existing footage:

I discovered that Thor trailer earlier today, and I have to say that it gave me the goosebumps. It's going to be very difficult to make a decent Thor film, but the trailer makes it look like a halfway decent attempt.
ReplyDeleteThe first (official) footage I saw of the film left me quite ambivalent, but this trailer - albeit fan-made - has got me rather excited as well ;) Not 100 per cent convinced how the mythology will blend with the mundane, but have a lot of faith in Kenny Branagh!
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome. From what I understand, The Troll Hunter will be released abroad during the first half of next year. And then in a few years we'll have the Hollywood-remake...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Harald. Expect I'll catch this on DVD then.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly doesn't need a Hollywood remake - if the trailer is anything to go by - but sadly if it is really that good, there almost certainly will be a "reimagining" for those who can't be bothered with subtitles!
