On Target For Some Castle Fun...

More Friar Tuck Than Robin Hood!

Wrapping up my involvement in Rachel's birthday week celebrations (she's off visiting university friends this weekend), the good lady wife and I visited Leeds Castle, near Maidstone, yesterday afternoon.

I got to fire 10 arrows from a longbow (I certainly got better as I went on, but I think I'd have had more success shooting at hordes of French knights on the fields of Agincourt), after much persuasion I managed to get Rachel to pose in the village stocks and we managed to get lost in the maze (that stopped being fun after about 15 minutes of blazing sunshine and repeated exclamations of "we've just been along this section before"; in the end we tagged on to a mum and child who were being guided by her husband on the phone - he has already made it to the mound in the middle and could see over the hedges).

Imprisoned for a crime she didn't commit...

Once you made it to the middle of the maze you got to descend down into the grotto, which was more my cup of tea. From there a long and winding tunnel stretched underground - and under the maze - to take you back outside.
