This weekend Rachel and I were supposed to be going to the Chatham Dockyards for its annual Salute To The '40s.
However, yesterday, I was gripped by a mad urge to make headway in the Herculean task of sorting out the bomb site that is my gamesroom.
I made a good effort at rearranging my bookshelves (see above), and putting aside several boxes of books for charity, although admittedly for all the difference it made to the gamesroom as a whole it was as useful as rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic.
There was a lot of (unpleasant) sweating, some blood (I tripped once on the stairs and impaled my left hand on a sharp corner), but no tears.
However, all that hefting of boxes full of books totally wiped me out for today. I've managed to do a bit more grunt work, but there was no way I would have been able to make it around the Dockyards.
I do feel bad, as Rachel has been to several of "my things" recently (ie a pair of medieval festivals) and this is one of "her things", but I shall endeavour to make it up to her... even if next weekend there's a wargames show on the calendar.
But at least I think I'm starting to see some progress (although not as much as I would like) in restoring the gamesroom to a usable state.
What I could really do with is a team of hotties in vest-tops and Daisy Dukes to do all my heavy lifting for me, while I kick back and sip a JD and coke...
That sir, is an amazing set of books! 90% of mine are in the attic due to lack of space... And hey, if you need someone to come do some heavy lifting, let me know. I may not have a vest top, and am the wrong sex, but i have a nice hat, and I'm always happy to help!

DeleteAnd thank you for the kind offer of assistance; I may well take you up on that although it's now going to be lots of small amounts of moving as I attempt to reorganise my DVDs, games book and (the big one) comics, so they're as neat as these books again.
It's certainly not something I'll attempt in one go, but ideally regular short bursts over a period of time.
Looks great! As you mentioned, it sounds like you owe your lady some quality time. ;)

DeleteLooks like the work paid off. And Rachel I would think be thrilled that you have it organized and not thrown all over the place. Still, I nice dinner would be a good thing.

DeleteI'm moving house soon and have managed to cull three large boxes of books that are going to charity, and by the end of the week I should have some more stuff to ebay. I hate getting rid of stuff, but due to money, me and the girl friend are downsizing the house and losing an entire room when we move, so I really need to lose some stuff.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all that, Paul. Such clear-outs can be very satisfying and cathartic, but be careful what you give away or sell. I still, sometimes, inwardly weep at the quantity of gaming material and comic books I've had to get rid of over the years!
