Rather perversely in recent weeks, as HeroPress approaches 300 Followers and three-quarters of a million hits, our daily hit count has declined dramatically.
For the entirety of August we were running at over a 1,000 hits a day but now that's eased off into the 800s - just when I felt I was hitting my stride with regular game-orientated posts. Ah, the sweet mysteries of the bloggerverse!
Of course, what this could mean, is a translation of random hits from visitors scoping out pictures of hot, geeky babes, into quality hits from gamers wanting to actually read what I've posted. Yeah, let's pretend that's what's happening...
After we hit 300 Followers (or rather "if" we hit 300 Followers), the next target is 320, so HeroPress can level up and earn the title of Sage.
However, the good news is that the current decline in viewership hasn't discouraged new recruits from signing on for our big adventure.
Please be upstanding for:
- jasonzavoda of Hall Of The Mountain King (a gritty old school renaissance blog)
- Shorty of Shortymonster (a great RPG blog)

Thanks for the mention sir, and I'm glad you like what I do. Don't worry too much about the daily hits, I'd give my left nu... trouser pocket for 800 hits a day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Paul. I checked again just now and they're continuing to drop to almost half what the site was attracting last month! I just wish I knew why ;-)
ReplyDeleteI think you were right about the fact that you hosted videos and images that would come up regularly in searches, and doing less of that will see a drop in traffic. As someone who comes here for the gaming chat, I'm OK with that, but I can see it as being a bit worrying for you. Just stick to what you're doing, and look at the follower numbers. These are people who have gone out of the way to engage with the site, not just click to watch a video or look at a pretty girl. Keep them happy, and you'll be getting better traffic than most RPG blogs out there.
DeleteA triumph of quality over quantity :-) Thank you!
