[TEKRALH] Wolf's Bane...

In the herbal lore of Tekralh, Wolf's Bane - which grows in mountain meadows in the wild northern regions of the continent - is used for treating those cursed with lycanthropy, werewolves.

It also happens to be quite toxic for normal people as well...

The two main methods of usage are (a) burning its dried leaves and (b) making it into a brew.

Both of these are not without risk. The burning method runs the risk of affecting the person lighting the dried plants, while only a trained herbalist can make the brew. Even picking the plants by hand runs the risk of poisoning. If picked without the use of gloves, the picker must make a saving throw or suffer 1d6 damage from contact toxins. This damage kicks in 1d6 minutes after picking and is preceded by a tingling up the arm, an unpleasant numbness and pains in the chest.

BURNING: Burning a clump of dried wolf's bane creates a (roughly 10ft cube) cloud of acrid smoke that is uncomfortable for all to breath. Normal humans must make a saving throw (versus poison) every round they inhale or start coughing, if they start coughing they are unable to perform any action except move out of the cloud. Once out of the area of effect it takes a single combat round to recover.

However, a werewolf entering the cloud must make a saving throw (versus poison) every round - at -3 - or start to feel dizzy (all further saving throws, attacks etc are at -2). If he fails a second saving throw and is still in the cloud then he starts taking damage as his lungs fill with fluid (1d6/round).

Once outside of the cloud it takes a werewolf 1d6 combat rounds to recover - up to that point he still suffers the universal -2 penalty on all rolls.

BREW: Anyone drinking a wolf's bane brew must make a saving throw (versus poison) or suffer 3d6 damage (if successful, still takes 1d6). However, if drunk by a werewolf the damage is doubled.

If the wolf's bane brew is applied to a werewolf bite, the victim has a (CON x 3) per cent chance of not contracting lycanthropy. However he must also make a saving throw (versus poison) or take 2d6 damage. If he makes the save, he takes only 1d4 damage.
