The River Starts Flowing On October 9...
My interest has been piqued by the trailers on SyFy and I'm looking forward to The River... but then again I felt the same about Lost, Invasion, Alacatraz, Terra Nova and countless other 'mystery' shows that have either written themselves into nonsensical corners or finished without satisfactory answers or explanations.
And, of course, like so many of these shows that get our hopes up here in the UK it's already been axed in the States - after a single, eight-episode season - before, presumably, the "big reveal" of what's actually going on.
So is it even worth the effort of watching these episodes?

If nothing else, it looks like some good game fodder in there.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I'm just wondering how much I should try and convince Rachel to watch it with me as her tolerance for shows that end without answers has become severely worn down over recent years.
DeleteThe River starts slow and confusing but I thought things picked up and got more interesting near the end of the season. While the season ends with typical a "to be continued" that will never be continued, it felt like the first season arc had some resolution so didn't feel like I wasted my time. It's sort of like Terra Nova in that regard. I recently watched Outcasts courtesy of Netflix streaming, and you can think of that as the UK returning the favor.
ReplyDeleteThanks, John. I enjoyed Terra Nova yet loathed Outcasts, but am reasonably optimistic that I'll like what we get to see of The River.
DeleteOh, Great Gygax no! It goes for dense, deep and mysterious, and quickly veers into bloated, botched and silly. After the zombies came out, I only continued watching out of morbid curiosity.
ReplyDeleteOh man, I hope you were joking about the zombies... I'm allergic to spoilers :(
