Magic Down Under...
Enjoy the Australian trailer for season five of Merlin, which hits the UK this Saturday.
Thanks to Seriable for the trailer, which has a lot of tasty new teasers in compared to our own trailer.
Can you guess the identity of the new knight at Camelot? It's a character we've met before but perhaps now in a position more in keeping with general Arthurian canon.

Nice trail, and I really should watch Merlin, I really should. I've read a lot of the early romances that started the legend and found it to be a fascinating look at how a period in history romanticized its own past. But doing a degree that meant I was reading academic history books full of people trying to convince me that there really was a King Arthur, and a Merlin et al, using the poorest of historical methodology really spoiled the whole thing for me.
ReplyDeleteI know it's not real, and think the show does a great job of capturing the fantasy of the story, from the trailers I've seen, but I know - in the back of my mind - that there's people out there who might be watching it as a documentary.
The show started off shaky and, honestly, I was surprised it survived its first season. However it has grown in leaps and bounds since then(and even returning to the first season via DVD, I found the episodes not quite as painful as I found them first time round).
DeleteThese days it's one of my favourite shows on the box and is especially good for sword and sorcery inspiration.
Be aware (although it's obvious from the trails) that this has quite a different spin on it than most Arthurian dramas, with the main difference being that Merlin is a young man (either the same age as, or slightly younger than, Prince Arthur when they first meet).
