As you will see, from the book cover in the right-hand column, I'm currently reading Werenight, by Eric Iverson (aka Harry Turtledove). This, and its predecessor, Wereblood, are old favourites of mine - being quite influential during my early days of Dungeons & Dragons.
After that I intend to read:
I read this a couple of years after it first came out, and several Discworld books that came afterwards, but was never really hooked. I listened to readings on tape of many, many volumes when I was in hospital, but again never really "got" Terry Prachett (the audio books were abridged anyway, so that might explain some of it).
So my plan is start the Discworld saga from book one and after I finish each buy the next book and slot it into my reading list.
After The Colour Of Magic, there's a change in tone to this:
Just because, really. I think it's probably a book I ought to read... and it's not very long anyway.
That then moves us onto:
Andy Robb was mentioned by Philip Reeve on Twitter, so I googled him and up came this book with a d20 on the front cover. I was sold!
Finally, I hope to get this in just under the wire, as part of my pledge to read at least one volume of George RR Martin's Song Of Ice And Fire a year...

If you didn't get into Prachett the first time around, but are determined to try again, I recommend The Wee Free Men . It starts a series more or less independent from the other books, and is better then his early stuff. Another good starting point is Guards, Guards!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sean. A couple of other people have also suggested that The Colour Of Magic may not be the best place to start... but that's the only Pratchett book I've got (except for a some short stories in other collections)!
